Ahoy!

My name is Kathleen Fisher, and I have been surrounded by antiques since I was A child. From my great-grandfather’s antique clock collection to my Grandmother’s cow figurines and wind-up toys, I learned early on about the joy of finding unique vintage and antique objects.

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and have always loved the coastal style that envelops northern California (along with the fog).

My career has taken me across the antique and design world, including working for a silver collector and two auction houses, earning a MAster’s degree in the History of design from Parsons, and cataloging for the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. I gained invaluable experience through it all.

After living in New York city for the last several years, I’ve moved back to California, settling in San Francisco. During my time working in the auction world, I developed a love for looking high and low to fill my own home with objects that bring joy and whimsy. And now I’m thrilled to be helping others do the same!

van der zee (of the sea)

when choosing a name, it was really important for me to reflect my family’s role in developing my love for antiques.

I remembered a story my grandmother told about one of her Dutch ancestors. He was born during a storm while on a boat coming to America, and so they named him storm van der zee.

it’s fitting that van der zee (meaning of the sea) reflects our specialty, California coastal collections!
